Nepal is an independent country sandwiched between two heavy-weights – China to the north and India to the south, east and west. , Nepal is a country of amazing extremes. The world’s highest peaks including the mighty Sagarmatha (Everest) are to be found here. Nepal is rich in terms of bio-diversity due to its unique geographical position and altitude variation. The elevation of the country ranges from 60 meters above sea level to the highest point on earth, Mt. Everest at 8,848 meters. Undoutedly Nepal has a wealth of breathtaking and stunning scenery!
Nepal’s terraced foothills are sparsely populated by over 36 distinct ethnic groups. This potpourri of groups and sub-groups speak over 93 languages and dialects.
Some of these groups are well known – the Sherpas for their strength and stamina as porters on the mountains; the Gurkhas for their fierce fighting and loyalty to the British Army; and the tribes who climb the mountainsides to collect the wild bees’ honey.
